It’s no secret that all great golfers spend a lot of time practicing. But with a busy work schedule or family, it can be tough hitting the course regularly. An easy way for you to improve your game is to work on your short game in the yard.
Most of the Pros have a putting green, and a chipping area in their backyard. Most of us are not this fortunate. Since hitting the golf course isn’t easy during the outbreak of COVID-19, and you are likely social distancing at home, here are some ideas to create the perfect backyard golf course. Let’s jump right in!
Maybe we don’t have the land or the budget to get the same backyard course as the pros, so what are some of the more affordable options? Since there are so many products on the market, we have done the research for you. So, let’s not waste any time and only look at the best options.
Best option for backyard golf
Golf Meets Cornhole!
Many of you might be familiar with cornhole, the ultimate backyard barbecue game. The rules of the game are relatively the same. Picture two target boards, across from each other with players trying to chip the golf balls into the hole for a point.
This is a fun and engaging way to practice chipping with friends or alone. Another great thing about CHIPPO is that you can take it to the beach or almost anywhere that has a large enough space.
- A great game to play with family or party guests
- Not only a fun game, but you’re also practicing golf!
- Easy to set up.
- The target boards can be unsteady.
- The chipping surface is a bit short.
- It doesn’t include clubs.

This item is great for beginners who can’t make it to the course often to practice. Now anybody can become a better chipper with this net.
- Built to last.

- Not water-resistant.
PrideSports Practice Golf Balls
You’re probably thinking “great, another set of practice golf balls”. But PrideSports offer a unique approach to backyard golf. Since they’re bright yellow, it makes it easier to see your ball from swing to follow through.
It’s a great way to practice golf in the backyard without upsetting your wife. They’re made from soft foam, so no broken windows or car dents.
- Easy to spot out in the grass or the air.
- No major damage caused.
- The same size as regular golf balls.

GoSports BattleChip Backyard Golf Cornhole Game
Similar to the CHIPPO, the GoSports is a fun backyard golf game for friends and family. Matching the style of Cornhole, two teams try to pitch the balls into the hole of the target board across the playing field.
This yard game can make any family gathering spring with excitement. All you need to do is assemble the pieces, space out the target boards, and start playing!
- Super fun and engaging game to play with others.
- Great way to improve chipping skills.
- Easy to assemble.
- It doesn’t come with clubs.
- Hitting mat is flimsy.
KINGTOP Golf Flagsticks Pro
This is a modern way to improve your short game. With the KINGTOP Flagsticks, you can create your holes for your backyard golf course. A great way to practice chipping and it looks stylish on the lawn.
You can choose between white or red-colored flags, and the putting cup drains rainwater.

Dura-Pro Commercial Golf Mat Premium Turf
Any good golfer knows the importance of the short-game. That’s why most of these products are designed to improve chipping and pitching techniques. The Dura-Pro is no exception. This turf has a high rating nationwide and fits comfortably on all lawns.
For over 20 years Dura has been a prime brand in the golf industry. Their products don’t seem to disappoint.

Kerrogee Large Open Size Golf Hitting Nets
The Large Size Golf Hitting Net by Kerrogee is just huge! With the golf net being ten feet wide, six and a half feet high, and 6 feet long, you will have more than enough space to practice your hits. The product is advertised as widely applicable, meaning you should be able to set the golf hitting net basically anywhere, starting from your backyard, center park, and even indoors.
However, when I tried this golf hitting net, I was rather disappointed. The net is actually poor quality. After only a few hits, the target broke from the attachments. Obviously, I couldn’t use it anymore. Also, the golf ball tore through the mesh after less than ten hits.
I think that this golf net may be suitable for Slow swing speed golfers (I mean very low, like under 90mph). If your speed is over 100mph, this golf hitting net won’t suit and may even break on your first hit. We don’t recommend this product.
- Very large golf hitting net
- Versatile design suitable to use even indoors
- Made from Oxford cloth, contains fiberglass poles
- Easy to set up
- Suitable for both beginners and more advanced players
- Very low-quality product, the mesh was ruined after only a few hits
- Very expensive for the given quality
- Stitching is weak
- Netting along the back bottom quickly starts to rip
- Suitable for low swing speed golfers only
Rukket Tri-Turf Golf Hitting Mat Attack
Here’s one of the more practical items on the list for the perfect backyard golf course. The Rukket Golf Hitting mat is suitable for most terrains and is sturdy when swinging. It’s also perfect for not scooping up chunks of your lawn all over the place. The mat will keep your grass safe and improve your short-game tremendously.
- Sturdy and holds nicely on the lawn.
- Visually appealing.
- Easy to set up.
- Smaller than other versions.
- Needs to be leveled constantly.
