5 best golf courses in conway – South Carolina

Shaftesbury Glen Golf & Fish Club, Shaftesbury Glen Course

Shaftesbury Glen Golf & Fish Club, Shaftesbury Glen Course - AEC Info

With a 4.4 rating on Google and more than 322 reviews, Shaftesbury Glen Golf & Fish Club is a popular golfing destination for those making the trip to Conway, SC.

With A-1 Bentgrass greens, it is one of the few golf courses in the area with this type of greens that are beautifully manicured and roll true.

Golfers of all skill levels will enjoy the wide open landing areas that are forgiving and fairly common on each hole.  There are a ton of bunkers on this course, but they still give way to the large landing areas before the green of most holes.

Teeing off is not nearly as intimidating as some other courses in the Conway or Myrtle Beach area because of these huge landing areas that are very forgiving for the mis-hit tee balls.

Number 18 is a long and straight par 4 with well spaced bunkers, (5 in total) protecting the green. Although the green is huge, you will need to be precise when hitting your approach shot to this great finishing hole.

Burning Ridge Golf Club, Burning Ridge Course

Burning Ridge Golf Club, Burning Ridge Course - AEC Info

Burning Ridge Golf Club has been ranked 8.9 by players and reviewers at Myrtle Beach Golf Insiders. The golf course is located in Conway, but is just 24 miles to the heart of Myrtle Beach.

The course is located just off Highway 17/Nelson Street in North Myrtle Beach and offers a unique setting with views of the Atlantic Ocean from many holes. The course features rolling fairways lined with native trees and shrubs, as well as a variety of natural wetlands.

With six sets of tees, a total of 7,200 yards, and a par 72 layout, Burning Ridge is a challenging golf course. The four par threes are challenging to say the least.

Your shortest par 3 is 185 yards, and #12 is considered one of the hardest in the ares measuring 247 yards from tee to green.

You will not find any two greens to be similar at Burning Ridge Golf club.  The greens can be small and narrow, and you will also find very large greens that are very narrow from side to side, but extremely deep from back to front.

Burning Ridge also boasts a full-service pro shop as well as an impressive practice facility with a grass driving range, putting green and chipping green with a practice bunker.

Wild Wing Plantation

Wild Wing Plantation - AEC Info

Wild Wing Golf Plantation offers two great golf courses that are sure to challenge golfers of all skill levels. Some would say, it is too challenging at times with the tough to reach Par 4’s and Par 5’s.

The courses are very well maintained, with pristine fairways and rough that can challenge the best of us. The greens are challenging but very receptive to good shots, especially with wedges and higher lofted clubs.

The Avocet Course, designed by Larry Nelson, has been a Myrtle Beach must-play for the last 20 years. The Hummingbird Nine is is growing quickly in popularity and is one that is often overlooked by those taking a golf trip to Myrtle Beach.

If you are looking to play 27 holes in a day and mix up the look, the combination of the Hummingbird Nine and the Avocet Course is a great pairing.

The Hacker Course is one of the few courses in the entire country that offers a PGA Golf management program.  Only 18 golf university programs are PGA accredited putting the Hackler course in some pretty prestigious company.

The course has a beautiful 9,000 square foot putting facility and an all-grass driving range. You can also sharpen your skills before your round in the in the short game area which features 3 holes and a practice bunker.

The cart paths are currently being redone and the greens are in perfect shape and the you will certainly notice that your putts will roll true on these great putting surfaces.

The Witch Golf Club, Witch Course

The Witch Golf Club - AEC Info

We have had to update this review as the Witch Golf Course was closed on November 21, 2021.  The President of D.G. Golf Management said reasons for closing the golf course were due to the flooding issues that made it “impossible to operate it properly and successful”.

Sadly, the Witch Golf Club was a favorite for many golfers making their annual trip to the Conway and Myrtle Beach, South Carolina area.

Currently, the website is still live, but after doing a few searches online, it is clear that the golf course has closed its doors permanently and will likely turn into possible real estate in the near future.
